Dryer vent cleaning — seal duct joints with foil tape, not screws

Dryer vent

When you reconnect a dryer vent after cleaning, seal duct joints with foil tape instead of screws. Screw tips inside the duct snag lint and build clogs.

After dryer vent cleaning, how you rejoin the duct matters. Seal each joint with foil tape — screws poke into the airflow and catch lint.

Seal dryer vent duct joints with foil tape

  1. Slide the joint together so the upstream piece fits inside the downstream piece, in the direction air flows.
  2. Wrap foil tape fully around the seam, pressing it flat with no gaps.
  3. Skip sheet-metal screws inside the run; lint hangs on the tips.
  4. Run the dryer briefly and feel the seam for leaking warm air.

Honest stop: use metal foil tape, not plain cloth duct tape, which dries out and peels off with heat.
