Dryer vent cleaning — phone camera peek before you brush

Dryer vent

Before dryer vent cleaning with a brush kit, a phone camera peek down the run shows crushed foil or a nest so you do not push debris deeper when the dryer takes two cycles.

When the dryer takes two cycles, do not shove a brush blind into a kinked hose. A quick phone camera peek into the dryer vent shows crushed foil, lint plugs, or pests so dryer vent cleaning starts safer.

  1. Unplug the dryer (and shut gas off if applicable). Pull it forward only enough to reach the indoor vent collar — keep the hose from tearing.
  2. Detach the indoor hose or collar. Use your phone flashlight and camera aimed into the duct — look for crushed foil, heavy lint cakes, or nesting material.
  3. If the run looks crushed or blocked within the first few feet, fix or replace that section before brushing so bristles do not jam.
  4. Only then run a proper brush kit toward the outdoors, and recheck the outdoor flap swings freely.

Honest stop: never force a camera or brush past a sharp metal edge. Long wall runs with unknown elbows may need a soft inspection camera or a technician — not a blind stiff brush from indoors.
