Humidifier wick — rinse the frame before a new wick

Humidifier wick

Before installing a new humidifier wick, rinse the wick frame so mineral grit does not seed the fresh humidifier filter — one beat for longer wick life.

A fresh humidifier wick sits in a frame that often holds grit from the old pad. Rinse that frame before the new humidifier filter goes in so leftover minerals do not seed the new media on day one.

Rinse the humidifier wick frame before the new wick

  1. Unplug the unit, remove the old humidifier wick, and lift out the frame or tray the pad sat in.
  2. Rinse the frame under warm tap water and wipe mineral crust; skip harsh cleaners unless the manual names them for that plastic.
  3. Dry the frame enough that it is not dripping, then seat the new humidifier wick fully in the guides without folding the corners.
  4. Refill with the water type you normally use and run a short cycle while you check for even wet-out.

Honest stop: if the frame is cracked or warped so the wick will not stand square, replace the frame or unit path the manual allows — do not force a folded wick into a broken guide.
