Keep the humidifier wick frame when you replace the pad

Humidifier wick

The plastic retainer or frame usually stays with the machine — only the pad goes in the trash. Match the wick part to your model plate.

Many evaporative humidifiers hold the pad in a reusable plastic frame or retainer. When you change the wick, that frame usually stays with the machine — only the spent pad goes in the trash.

Keep the frame, swap the pad

  1. Unplug the unit and empty standing water into a sink.
  2. Open the housing the way your manual shows (often a lift-off tank, then a slide-out wick tray).
  3. Unsnap or unhook the frame. Pull the old pad out of the retainer; do not throw the frame away with the pad.
  4. Seat the new wick in the same frame. If the pad is labeled FRONT, face that side toward the fan or the front of the machine as marked.
  5. Reinstall the framed wick, refill with fresh water, and plug back in.

Match the part to the model plate

Wicks are sized to the housing. Use the full model number on the rating plate (back or base), not only the brand name on the front. A pad that looks close but sits loose or crushed will waste water and cut output.

Honest stop

If the frame is cracked, missing, or the new pad will not stay oriented, stop and order the maker’s matching wick kit for your exact model — or retire a unit that cannot hold a pad safely. Do not run an evaporative humidifier without the retainer it was designed for.
