Humidifier wick not used — still empty the ultrasonic tank

Humidifier wick

Ultrasonic humidifiers often have no humidifier wick. Empty and dry the base plate anyway so standing water does not smell musty like a forgotten humidifier filter.

Many ultrasonic units skip a humidifier wick / evaporative humidifier filter and mist from a base plate. End-of-day care is still empty-and-dry — standing water smells musty even without a wick.

No humidifier wick still means empty the ultrasonic tank

  1. Confirm your model: ultrasonic (usually no wick) vs evaporative (uses a humidifier wick).
  2. Unplug. Pour out the tank and the base reservoir; wipe the plate dry — do not leave overnight puddles.
  3. If the maker allows vinegar descaling, follow their dilution and rinse fully; never leave descaler in the tank.
  4. Store with the tank open to air until fully dry — same habit as wick models go into off-season storage.

Do not run bleach or mystery cleaners in the mist path. If the base plate is cracked or the unit sparks when wet, stop DIY and retire the unit.
