Between humidifier wick replacements, rinse mineral dust from the wick housing weekly so scale does not recirculate into the next pad.

A new humidifier wick sits in a housing that collects mineral dust. Skipping a quick weekly rinse means the next pad loads faster and white dust returns sooner.

Weekly rinse of the humidifier wick housing

  1. Unplug the unit. Lift out the humidifier wick (or filter) and set it aside on a towel.
  2. Empty the reservoir. Rinse the wick frame / housing under warm tap water to loosen chalky film. A soft brush helps on corners — no harsh scouring powder on plastic.
  3. Wipe mineral rings from the reservoir if the maker allows water-only cleaning. Reassemble only when parts are drip-dry.
  4. Keep the old wick’s frame if your model uses a reusable cage — Keep the humidifier wick frame. Replace the wick on schedule — When to replace humidifier wick.

Hard water leaves more dust; distilled or demineralized water slows it — see Humidifier white dust.

Honest stop

Do not pour undiluted bleach into a housing the maker did not approve for it. If the unit smells musty after a clean rinse, follow Humidifier smells musty after cleaning and replace a soggy wick.
