Windshield wipers squeaking — clean the film off the glass
Wiper size
Windshield wipers squeaking or skipping? Road film and wax on the glass can be the cause. Clean the windshield before you buy new wiper blades.

New or good windshield wipers can still squeak if the glass has a film of road grime or car wash wax.
Clean windshield film to stop wiper squeak
- Park in the shade with the engine off.
- Spray glass cleaner on the windshield and scrub with a clean microfiber cloth.
- Wipe again with a second dry cloth until it feels smooth, not grabby.
- Run the wipers with washer fluid and listen.
If they still squeak on clean glass, check the blade edge next.
