Windshield wiper blades — mist washer fluid before the first wipe

Wiper size

New windshield wiper blades last longer when you mist washer fluid before the first wipe instead of dragging dry rubber on dusty glass — one beat.

A dry first pass can chatter and scratch grit across the glass. Before you run new windshield wiper blades, mist washer fluid so the first wipe rides on a wet film — not dust.

Mist washer fluid before the first wipe

  1. After seating new windshield wiper blades, confirm they rest in the park position with arms down.
  2. Spray washer fluid until the sweep area is visibly wet — do not start the wipers on a dry dusty windshield.
  3. Run one slow wipe cycle and watch for chatter; add another mist if the glass still looks dusty mid-pass.
  4. When the first wet wipe is clean and quiet, stop testing — save further cycles for real weather.

Honest stop: washer fluid will not fix a torn edge or wrong blade size — replace or rematch the adapter if chatter continues on wet glass.
