Grit in the wiper arm tip can keep new windshield wiper blades from locking or can cause chatter on the first rain. After you remove the old blade, wipe the arm tip channel clean before you click the new adapter on — one small beat that saves a redo in the driveway.

Wipe the wiper arm tip channel before a new blade

  1. Lift the wiper arm carefully and support it so the bare arm cannot slam the glass. Remove the old blade per the adapter style.
  2. Wipe the metal tip and adapter channel with a dry cloth. Clear sand or old rubber crumbs from the hook or pinch slot.
  3. Click the new windshield wiper blade on until it locks, then lower the arm gently onto the glass.
  4. Mist the windshield and do one slow wipe test. If the blade skips, recheck the adapter lock before blaming the rubber.

Honest stop: if the arm tip is bent or the spring is weak, a clean channel will not fix pressure — replace the arm or have a shop check it.
