Replace the driver windshield wiper blade first
Wiper size
If you can only buy one set of windshield wiper blades today, replace the driver blade first — that side clears your view.

When the budget or the store shelf only covers one blade, prioritize the driver side. That windshield wiper blade clears the view you steer with; the passenger blade can wait a short trip if sizes differ.
Driver windshield wiper blade first
- Confirm wiper blade size for both sides — they are often different lengths. See Find windshield wiper blade size.
- Buy the driver length first when you can only afford one. Match the adapter style (hook, pinch tab, etc.) to the arm.
- Install on a wet glass, lower the arm gently, and test a spray-and-wipe. Streaks that remain after a new driver blade may be glass film or a worn passenger blade — New wipers still streak or chatter.
- Replace the passenger blade as soon as you can so the pair wears together.
Clear ice before any wipe — Clear ice before running wipers.
Honest stop
Do not run metal arms on dry glass. If the arm spring is weak or the blade chatters only on one sweep, the arm or glass condition may need a shop check — not a third identical blade.
