Garage remote not working but wall button does

Garage remote

When the wall button opens the door but the remote does not, check lock mode, battery, LED bulb interference, antenna, and careful Learn reprogramming.

If the wall button still opens and closes the door, the opener motor and safety sensors are usually fine. The problem sits in the remote path: lock mode, battery, interference, antenna, or a lost learn code.

Check lock / vacation mode first

Many wall panels have a lock, vacation, or remote-disable switch. When it is on, remotes are ignored and the wall button still works. Look for a padlock icon or a slide switch; turn lock mode off and test the remote again.

Battery and range basics

Replace the remote battery before you reprogram — a weak cell fails from the driveway while the wall button never notices. Walk through Garage remote battery before you reprogram.

LED bulbs and the antenna

Some LED bulbs in the opener light sockets create RF noise that shrinks remote range. Try the original incandescent-style opener bulbs (or LEDs the maker lists as compatible). Confirm the thin antenna wire hangs freely from the opener — not taped up into the chassis.

Reprogram carefully

Use the opener’s Learn button only as the manual describes. A short press usually adds one remote; holding Learn too long can erase every remote. Program one remote, test, then add others. Do not erase the whole set unless you mean to.

Never do this

Never bypass the photo-eye safety sensors, and never adjust or “help” the torsion springs. Those are safety and spring-danger areas for a trained technician only.

Honest stop

If lock mode is off, the battery is fresh, bulbs and antenna are sorted, and a careful Learn cycle still fails, the remote board may be worn or the opener needs a matching replacement remote. A door technician can confirm compatibility.
