Garage door remote — test from the end of the driveway after a battery

Garage remote

After a garage door remote battery swap, test from the end of the driveway — not only beside the door — so short range shows up early.

A new garage remote battery can look fine when you stand under the opener. Walk to the end of the driveway and press once — that is the real garage door remote range check after a cell swap.

Test the garage remote from the end of the driveway

  1. Seat fresh batteries with correct polarity, close the battery door fully, and confirm the remote LED blinks when you press.
  2. Stand at the end of the driveway (or the farthest spot you normally use), aim at the door, and press once — do not mash from two feet away as your only test.
  3. If it works up close but not from the end of the drive, check for a new LED bulb in the opener, a weak second cell in dual-battery remotes, or a learn-button reprogram need.
  4. When the end-of-driveway press works once, stop — you do not need to reprogram a remote that already opens at real range.

Honest stop: if the wall button works but no remote reaches from the driveway after new batteries, do not keep buying cells — clear learn-mode confusion or call the opener maker’s support path.
