Garage door remote — replace a worn visor-clip spring

Garage remote

When a garage door remote keeps falling off the sun visor, the clip spring may be worn. Fix the clip after you confirm a fresh garage remote battery.

A garage door remote that keeps sliding off the sun visor is often a tired clip spring — not a dead radio. Confirm a fresh garage remote battery first, then decide whether the visor clip needs a replacement shell or clip kit.

Replace a worn visor-clip spring on a garage door remote

  1. Test the remote from the driveway with a known-good coin cell. If the wall button works and the remote LED is bright, treat “drops off the visor” as a clip problem.
  2. Inspect the plastic visor jaws: a flattened spring, cracked hinge, or polished-smooth teeth will not grip fabric.
  3. Prefer a maker-matched clip or a same-model shell kit over taping the remote to the visor (tape gums the battery door).
  4. After a new clip, confirm the battery door still latches and the remote is not aimed at a new LED bulb that kills short-range RF.

Honest stop: do not bypass photo-eye safety sensors or wire around the opener logic. A strong garage door remote signal still needs clear sensors.
