Garage remote short range after an LED bulb change
Garage remote
When driveway range collapses after a new opener bulb, test for LED RF interference, check the antenna wire, and swap to an opener-rated bulb.

If the remote used to work from the street and now only works a few feet from the door — especially right after you changed the opener light — the bulb may be jamming the radio. Many LED (and some CFL) bulbs put out RF noise close to the opener’s receiver.
Confirm the wall button still works. If it does, the motor and safety sensors are usually fine. See also Garage remote not working but wall button does.
Sixty-second bulb test
- Turn the opener light off (or unscrew the bulb if the light stays on).
- Stand at your usual failure distance and press the remote once.
- If range returns with the light off, treat the bulb as the interference source.
Then try an opener-rated / low-interference LED listed for garage door openers, or temporarily test with the style of bulb your opener manual allows. Ordinary cheap LEDs and CFLs are common culprits when range collapses overnight.
Battery and antenna before you reprogram
A weak coin cell also shrinks range. Replace it and retest before you mash Learn — walk Garage remote battery before you reprogram.
Confirm the thin antenna wire hanging from the motor head is free and straight — not taped up into the chassis or coiled tightly against metal.
Other new noise sources
Shop lights, smart bulbs, mesh Wi-Fi nodes, or chargers added near the ceiling can add RF noise. Temporarily power those off and retest from the driveway if the opener bulb alone is not the story.
Never do this
Never bypass photo-eye safety sensors, and never adjust torsion springs. Those are safety and spring-danger jobs for a trained technician.
Honest stop
If range stays poor with a fresh battery, a quiet bulb, a free antenna, and lock/vacation mode off, the remote board or opener receiver may need a matching replacement. A door technician can confirm compatibility.
