A spare garage door remote is useless in a year if nobody remembers which opener it pairs to. Write the opener model (from the motor unit label) on tape on the spare so the next garage remote battery swap or learn button session matches the right door.

Label the spare garage door remote with the opener model

  1. Read the model number on the garage opener motor unit (ceiling or wall-mount label) while the spare remote is in hand.
  2. Put a small piece of tape on the spare remote back or battery door and write that model in permanent marker.
  3. Store the labeled spare with a note of the battery type if it differs from the daily remote.
  4. When range dies later, change the battery on the labeled spare first — then use the learn button only if the opener model still matches.

Honest stop: if the motor label is illegible, photograph the learn-button area and board markings before you buy a universal remote that may not fit.
