Key fob battery — dry-wipe the tray before a new CR2032

Key fob

Wipe the key fob battery tray with a dry cloth before a new CR2032 so residue does not block contacts — one beat, no soaking alcohol on the board.

A brand-new CR2032 can still leave a key fob not working if dust, film, or old adhesive sits in the coin-cell tray. Dry-wipe that tray before you drop in the cell so the key fob battery seats clean against the contacts inside the key fob case.

Dry-wipe the key fob battery tray before you seat a new CR2032

  1. Open the key fob case and lift out the old coin cell. Do not pry on the board traces — only the cell edge.
  2. Wipe the metal tray and spring with a dry microfiber or lint-free cloth. Skip soaking alcohol or spray cleaners that can wick under chips.
  3. Seat the new CR2032 with the printed side matching the tray mark, then close the key fob case evenly.
  4. Test lock range outdoors. If range is still dead with a confirmed cell and a clean tray, move on to pad and board checks — not another random CR2032 size.

Honest stop: if the tray is green with corrosion or the spring is broken, a dry wipe will not save it — use a matching shell/board kit or locksmith help.
