Key fob battery — hold the new coin cell by its edges

Key fob

Key fob battery swap tip: hold the new coin cell by its edges so skin oil stays off the contacts. One small habit before you close the shell.

When you do a key fob battery swap, how you pick up the new coin cell matters a little. Fingertip oil on the flat faces can leave a film on the contacts, so handle the cell by its rim.

Handle the key fob battery by the rim

  1. Open the new coin cell pack and tip the battery onto a clean, dry cloth instead of pinching it out.
  2. Pick it up by the edges only, thumb and finger on the rim, not on the flat faces.
  3. Drop it into the tray with the printed side facing the way the old one sat, then close the shell.
  4. If you did touch a face, wipe it once with a dry, lint-free cloth before you close up.

That is the whole beat: clean hands off the faces, and the new key fob battery seats on clean contacts.
