Key fob battery — paint-pen the install date inside the shell after a CR2032

Key fob

After a new CR2032, mark the install month with a paint pen inside the key fob shell so the next key fob battery swap has a clear date — one beat.

When a key fob battery dies again in six months, guessing the last swap wastes time. After you seat a new CR2032, write the month/year with a paint pen on plastic inside the key fob case — not on the cell face — so the next open shows when that coin cell went in.

Paint-pen the CR2032 install date inside the key fob shell

  1. Finish seating the new CR2032 with the printed side matching the tray mark, and confirm the tray is dry and clean before you close.
  2. With the shell still open, write a short month/year on an inner plastic wall or battery door with a fine paint pen. Keep ink off the board, contacts, and the coin-cell face.
  3. Let the mark dry a few seconds, then close the key fob case evenly so the pad and shell latch seat without pinching the new mark.
  4. Test lock range outdoors. Next time the key fob is not working, open once and read the date before you blame the pad or buy a random cell size.

Honest stop: if the shell is cracked or the board is corroded, a paint-pen date will not fix range — use a matching shell kit or locksmith help.
