Key fob battery ready — metal key then press the fob

Key fob

After a fresh key fob battery, some older manuals want a metal-key door lock then a fob press within a minute. Confirm CR2032 first — this is lock radio only.

A weak key fob battery can make an older “metal key then press fob” sequence look broken. Fit a fresh CR2032 (or the size on the tray), confirm lock range, then decide whether that manual step even applies.

Metal key, then press the key fob within a minute

  1. Swap the coin cell and test lock/unlock from a few steps away before you chase any door-key dance.
  2. Some 1990s–mid-2000s owner manuals say: lock or unlock the driver door with the metal key, then press a fob button within about a minute so the car stores that remote for door locks.
  3. That sequence does not clone a modern immobilizer chip, push-button smart key, or blank aftermarket board that never paired on this make.
  4. Skip it when you have no metal cylinder key, push-button start only, or the manual requires a scan tool.

Honest stop: never bypass immobilizer security. Locks answering after a strong key fob battery still leave start authority as a separate system for a locksmith or dealer.
