Key fob battery first — radio reset is not a dead fob

Key fob

After a dead 12V, radio presets and the clock reset even when the key fob battery is fine. Confirm CR2032 range before assuming the fob failed.

A dead car battery resets the radio and clock. That does not mean the key fob battery died. Confirm a fresh CR2032 (or the tray size) and lock range before you treat key fob not working as a pairing failure.

Radio presets reset is not a dead key fob battery

  1. After jump-start or 12V replacement, expect radio presets and the clock to wipe — that is body computer memory, not the remote coin cell.
  2. Open the fob, match the coin-cell marking (CR2032 is common), fit a fresh cell with correct polarity, and snap the case fully.
  3. Test lock/unlock from a few steps away. If the doors answer, the key fob battery path is healthy even while the radio still needs presets rebuilt.
  4. Only chase re-sync or locksmith help when doors ignore a confirmed strong cell — radio reset alone is not evidence the fob failed.

Honest stop: never bypass immobilizer security. A working lock remote after a strong cell still leaves start authority as a separate system.
