Key fob battery — soft clip between the fob and the main ring

Key fob

A crowded key ring can press key fob buttons and drain a CR2032. Use a soft clip between the fob and the main ring so the pad stays free — one beat.

When keys and charms crowd a key ring, they can mash a lock or unlock pad in a pocket and flatten a fresh CR2032. A soft clip between the fob and the main ring keeps metal off the buttons so the key fob battery lasts longer.

Soft clip between the key fob and the main ring

  1. Open the main ring and slide the fob off so it is no longer stacked against the thickest keys and charms.
  2. Join the fob to the main ring with a short soft clip or fabric loop — the pad should hang free and not rest on hard metal when the set is in a pocket.
  3. Retest lock and unlock outdoors after a minute. Range that was dying overnight often returns once buttons stop staying half-pressed.
  4. If range is still poor with a known-good CR2032 and a free pad, open the shell next — worn contacts or a cracked key fob case can look like a weak cell.

Honest stop: if the pad is sticky or the board is corroded, a soft clip will not restore a dead contact path — clean or replace the shell kit next.
