Refrigerator water filter — discard a second ice harvest if taste is off

Fridge filter

After a refrigerator water filter change, first ice can taste off. Discard a second harvest when cubes still taste filter-y before judging the fridge filter model.

A new refrigerator water filter can leave the first ice batch tasting like plastic or carbon. If cubes still taste off after that first dump, discard a second harvest before you blame the wrong fridge filter model or call for service.

Discard a second ice harvest after a refrigerator water filter change

  1. After install and air purge, empty the ice bin once so mid-change cubes leave the system.
  2. Let a full new batch freeze. Taste one cube. If it still tastes filter-y or flat, dump that second harvest too.
  3. Confirm you seated the exact fridge filter model for your door sticker — a bypass plug left in can also confuse taste and flow.
  4. Only chase taste further when a third clean harvest is still odd with the correct filter locked and water dispensed clear.

Do not keep tasting stale bin ice as a filter test — empty and wait for a fresh freeze cycle each time.
