Refrigerator water filter — run a few glasses after a trip

Fridge filter

Refrigerator water filter tip: after you are away a week or more, run a few glasses through the dispenser before drinking so stale water clears.

Water that sits in the refrigerator water filter and lines while you are away can taste flat. A short flush when you get home clears it out.

Flush the refrigerator water filter line after time away

  1. Hold a glass or pitcher under the dispenser and run water for about a minute in short presses.
  2. Pour that water on a plant or down the sink.
  3. Toss the first batch of ice too if the ice maker ran while you were gone.

Stop there. If the taste is still off after a full flush, check the filter’s install date next.
