Flush the ice bin after a fridge filter change

Fridge filter

After a refrigerator water filter change, dump old ice and make a fresh batch so fridge ice does not keep the old taste.

A new refrigerator water filter cleans the water path — but ice already in the bin was made on the old filter. Dumping that batch is the missing taste step.

Flush ice after a refrigerator water filter change

  1. Finish the filter install and any purge for the dispenser so water runs clear (see your fridge filter model sheet if needed).
  2. Empty the ice bin completely into the sink. Wipe the bin dry so old chips do not melt back into the new batch.
  3. Restart ice making. Discard the first full bin (or at least the first harvest) if taste still seems off.
  4. Taste a glass from the dispenser and a few new cubes. If both are clean, you are done — mark the filter month on the collar while you are there.

Do not mix old cubes back into the new bin “to save ice.”

Honest stop

If water still tastes off after a purge, a dumped bin, and a confirmed filter model, check for a bypass plug or a wrong cartridge before buying another filter.
