No water after a fridge filter change — purge air

Fridge filter

Sputtering or a dead dispenser right after a new fridge filter is often trapped air — reseat the cartridge, then purge in short pulses until flow steadies.

You swapped the cartridge, pressed the paddle, and got a hiss, spit, or nothing. That is usually air pulled into the line when the old filter came out — not proof the fridge is broken.

Reseat, then purge in short pulses

  1. Confirm the cartridge matches your model — Find your fridge water filter model — and that it is fully locked (twist or push until it seats per the door diagram).
  2. Hold a pitcher under the dispenser. Press for about five seconds, release for five seconds, and repeat. Short pulses move air better than one long hold that stalls the pump.
  3. Expect sputter and cloudy draws at first. Keep going until the stream is steady, often a few gallons total. Discard that flush water.
  4. If taste is still dusty after flow returns, use Fridge water tastes bad after a filter change. Reset the reminder with Reset the fridge filter change light when you are done.

Honest stop

No sound and no water with the door closed and the dispenser unlocked, a leak at the housing, or a closed house shutoff valve is beyond a tip-page purge. Stop if the filter area is dripping and reseat or call service — do not keep forcing water past a leak.
