Reset the fridge filter change light

Fridge filter

After you replace a fridge water filter, reset the reminder light — it is usually a timer, not a sensor that knows the cartridge is new.

A glowing filter or replace filter light after you already swapped the cartridge does not mean the new one is bad. On most refrigerators the light is a simple timer. It keeps nagging until you reset it.

Reset after the swap

  1. Finish seating the new filter and flush a few gallons as your manual describes (see Fridge water tastes bad after a filter change if taste is off).
  2. Find the reset for your door style — common patterns are hold the filter button 3–5 seconds, or hold water + light together, until the indicator goes out or turns green.
  3. If nothing happens, check the model’s “filter reset” line in the owner’s manual rather than guessing every button combo.

Match the cartridge first with Find your fridge water filter model so you are not resetting a light on the wrong part.

Honest stop

Water on the floor, a filter that will not lock, or a bypass plug left in “demo” mode needs a seating fix or appliance help — a reset will not stop a leak.
