Vacuum bags — check the pre-motor filter when you fit a new bag

Vacuum bag

When suction stays weak after a new vacuum bag, check and clean the pre-motor filter before blaming the bag collar — one beat past the bag swap.

Vacuum bags alone do not fix vacuum lost suction if the pre-motor filter is clogged. After you seat a new bag (including a HEPA bag), check that secondary filter before you reorder another collar size.

Check the pre-motor filter when a new vacuum bag still feels weak

  1. Install the new bag with the collar fully seated and the door latched until any interlock clicks.
  2. Open the pre-motor filter cover (often behind the bag chamber or under a separate flap) and check for packed dust.
  3. Clean or replace that filter per the manual — washable types must dry fully before reinstall.
  4. Retest suction on a clean hard floor. If it is still weak with a new bag and a clear pre-motor filter, check the hose clog and exhaust filter next.

Honest stop: a torn pre-motor filter or a motor that smells hot needs service — do not keep running with a missing filter pad.
