Vacuum bags — check exhaust after a new HEPA bag feels weak

Vacuum bag

When a new HEPA vacuum bag seats cleanly but suction stays weak, check the exhaust filter next before you swap more vacuum bags and filters.

A fresh HEPA bag that seats fully can still leave pickup weak if the exhaust path is packed. Check that filter next before you blame vacuum bags fit or buy another multipack of vacuum bags and filters.

After a new HEPA vacuum bag seats, check the exhaust filter next

  1. Confirm the new bag collar is fully seated and the door interlock clicks — no cardboard bulge.
  2. If suction is still soft, open the exhaust or post-motor cover next (often rear or top), not another bag yet.
  3. Replace or clean the exhaust filter per the manual when it looks gray or past its months rating.
  4. Retest on a small rug edge before assuming the hose or a third filter is at fault.

Honest stop: burning smell, sparks, or a motor that will not spin after filter work means unplug and service — not another bag experiment.
