Check the exhaust filter when vacuum suction stays weak
Vacuum bag
When the bag or bin and pre-motor filter look fine but pickup is still weak, check the exhaust or post-motor HEPA — a clog there chokes airflow.

If the dirt cup or bag looks empty and the pre-motor foam looks clean, suction can still feel dead because the exhaust / post-motor filter is packed. That filter sits after the motor. When it clogs, air cannot leave the machine — pickup drops and exhaust air can feel hotter.
Check exhaust after the easy stuff
- Confirm the bag or bin and the pre-motor filter using Vacuum lost suction — check bag and filters.
- Open the exhaust or HEPA cover (often on the back or top). A filter that looks gray/packed — or that the manual calls disposable after months — is a common “invisible” choke point.
- Replace a disposable cartridge with the matched type — see Match your vacuum bag or filter type. Wash only if the label or manual says washable, then dry fully before reinstall — Washable vacuum filter must dry fully.
Honest stop
A hose clog, burning motor smell, or powder spilling into the motor area is service territory — not another rinse cycle. Unplug and stop if the machine smells hot with clear filters.
