Vacuum bags — fine dust fills a bag early, so change it sooner
Vacuum bag
Vacuuming fine dust like sanding or cold fireplace ash? It can clog a vacuum bag before it looks full. Change it sooner and check the manual first.

Fine dust packs the pores of a vacuum bag long before the bag looks full, and suction fades. After a dusty job, change the bag early.
Change the bag sooner after fine dust
- After a dusty job, check suction on a bare floor. If it is weaker, the bag pores may be clogged.
- Change the bag even if it feels half empty.
- Seat the new bag collar fully and close the door until it clicks.
- Check your manual before you vacuum very fine dust. Many household vacuums are not made for it.
If suction stays weak with a new bag, check the hose and the exhaust filter next.
