Vacuum bags — tap dust off the bag collar before a new bag

Vacuum bag

Before fitting new vacuum bags, tap dust off the collar and door seal so grit does not leak around the new bag — one beat for lost suction.

A fresh bag will not fix vacuum lost suction if the old collar left a dust ring around the door seal. Before you seat new vacuum bags, tap and wipe the bag collar area and door gasket so the new bag can seal clean against the housing.

Tap vacuum bag collar dust before you fit a new bag

  1. Unplug the vacuum, open the bag door, and remove the full bag without tearing the collar if you can help it.
  2. Tap the bag collar opening and door frame over a trash can so loose dust falls out. Wipe the gasket with a dry cloth — skip soaking sprays into the motor bay.
  3. Seat the new bag so the cardboard collar sits flush and the door latches without pinching the bag body.
  4. Run a short test on a rug edge. If suction is still weak with a clean collar seal, check the pre-motor and exhaust filters next.

Honest stop: if the door gasket is torn or the collar slot is cracked, tapping dust will not seal a new bag — replace the door seal or housing part.
