Vacuum bags — soft HEPA doors need both latches

Vacuum bag

When vacuum lost suction returns right after a new bag, check that a soft HEPA bag door clicked both latches. One-side latch leaves vacuum bags leaking air.

Vacuum bags only restore suction when the door seals. Soft HEPA-style canister doors often have two latches — one side clicked and one side open feels “closed” until vacuum lost suction returns on the next pass.

Soft HEPA vacuum bag doors need both latches

  1. Power off. Open the bag door and confirm the new bag’s cardboard collar is fully seated on the inlet (not cocked).
  2. Close the door and press until both latches or clips engage — listen/feel for two clicks on soft HEPA doors that latch left and right.
  3. If only one latch holds, the door bows and air bypasses the bag — suction feels weak even with a fresh bag.
  4. After both latches, check the exhaust/HEPA filter path; a clogged post-motor filter can still mimic a bag problem.

If the door will not latch with an aftermarket bag, the cardboard collar may be too thick — see the aftermarket collar guide before forcing the latch.
