Close vacuum bag door until the interlock clicks

Vacuum bag

After you install vacuum bags, close the bag door until the safety interlock clicks so the vacuum runs and you do not chase false vacuum lost suction.

Fresh vacuum bags only help if the bag door latches. Many canisters will not spin up — or sound weak — until the interlock switch clicks shut.

Close the vacuum bag door until the interlock clicks

  1. Seat the new bag collar fully on the inlet tube (no cocked edge).
  2. Lower or swing the bag cover/door. Listen and feel for a firm click from the latch or interlock tab.
  3. If the vacuum will not start, or starts then cuts out, reopen and reseat the door — a bag corner often blocks the switch.
  4. Run a short carpet pass. If pickup is still poor with a sealed door, check filters and hose next — that is real vacuum lost suction, not an open latch.

Do not tape the door shut to “force” a run; fix the latch path instead.

Honest stop

If the interlock is broken or missing, stop using the vacuum until the door switch is repaired. Running with the cover ajar can overheat the motor path.
