Vacuum bags — soft HEPA bag vs hard-shell door gap feel

Vacuum bag

When vacuum lost suction persists after a new bag, feel whether a soft HEPA bag vs hard-shell door still shows a gap before you buy more vacuum bags and filters.

A soft HEPA bag can look full-seated while a hard-shell door still shows a hairline gap. That leak often explains vacuum lost suction better than another box of vacuum bags — check the gap feel before more vacuum bags and filters.

Soft HEPA bag vs hard-shell door gap when vacuum suction stays weak

  1. With power off, close the bag door and run a fingertip along the seal edge — a soft bag that bulges can hold one corner open.
  2. Press the door until the interlock clicks and the gap disappears; recheck that the HEPA collar is not thicker than the cavity allows.
  3. If the hard shell still rocks or shows light through a seam, reseat the bag collar square before testing suction again.
  4. Retest on a small rug edge. Persistent weak pickup with a sealed door means hose or exhaust next — not another random bag brand yet.

Honest stop: a cracked door, broken latch, or shredded bag collar needs a housing or bag redesign match — do not tape a vacuum door shut.
