Printer ink — confirm printhead ribbon latch fully closed

Printer ink

After reseating a removable printhead ribbon, confirm the latch is fully closed before you blame printer ink cartridges or chase the wrong ink cartridge number.

A reseated printhead ribbon that looks aligned can still flake colors if the latch is only half-closed. Confirm that click before you buy more printer ink cartridges or swap to a different ink cartridge number.

Close the printhead ribbon latch fully before blaming printer ink cartridges

  1. Power off and unplug. After the ribbon is pushed home, look for the plastic latch or flip-lock that clamps the flex — many heads need that latch, not friction alone.
  2. Press until the latch sits flush or clicks; a raised edge or visible gap often means a half-open latch.
  3. Reinstall the head and cartridges, then run one nozzle check — not a long clean — to see if missing colors return.
  4. Only after a fully closed latch still fails should you compare ink cartridge number fit or contact wipe again.

Honest stop: if the latch is cracked, the ribbon will not seat square, or the head will not lock into the carriage, stop DIY — that is a service part, not another ink multipack.
